The Ward

The Ward that is mentioned is no longer present. It was symbolic to a village that was like home from once upon a time ago.

The Ward, also known as the First Ward and later the Old Ward was filled with Italians. Most of the families were originally from Italy but as the families grew more and more were local to the area they became Newark People which fills up the ward.

After many more years they need to move out of the area. The ward started around the 1800s. It wasn't until the early 1900s when the area became really defined by the Italian American community. And in the late 1900s the Italian Americans began to move out. But they come back.

The picture to the right is one of my family as well celebrate the baptism on my oldest son. Even though I am not from the area I feel a strong bond and my wife's family feels an even stronger bond because they were not only from the area but my wife's parents were married and baptized at St Lucy's Church.
